My humorous take on going green…
My latest book applies a light touch to an otherwise heavy subject: the environment. With Adventures in ECO Land: My Humorous Take on Going Green, I set out to help readers laugh and learn. I set the table with amusing personal anecdotes and then serve up hearty portions of food for thought.
With such witty titles as “Meat Me Halfway,” “Dishing the Dirt on Dishwashers,” “Confessions of a Chocaholic,” and “Recycling my Brains Out,” my well-researched short essays contain subjects everyone understands—and sustainable actions everyone can take. I’m a latecomer to the environmental scene, but I’ve been making up for lost time by founding ECO Team, which encourages people to make just one change in their lives to live more sustainably.
Creative scientific minds are at work to save the planet. I’ve come across proposals to turn pig pee into plastic; draw electricity from man-made tornados; sequester carbon dioxide in six-mile-long “sausages” on the sea floor; collect and resell the methane in cow farts; and drop exploding tree seeds from drones. My personal favorite is the suggestion that we have smaller children. NYU’s Center for Bioethics found a correlation between a person’s size and his/her carbon footprint!
Adventures in ECO Land is available in paperback and Kindle versions at Amazon and at Chaucer’s and Tecolote bookstores. A great read for you and perfect for gifting. Also, please let me know if you’d like me to read excerpts from the book over Zoom or in-person at your next group meeting. I can be reached at: bkgreenleaf@gmail.com or 805-689-4881.
Enough with the doom and gloom—We got this!
I applaud Barbara for making sustainable living not only do-able but fun. In this book she takes on the big subjects, such as colonizing the moon, as well as the little subjects, such as swearing off plastic straws. Even if you’ve never recycled a paper bag in your life, Adventures in ECO Land will raise your awareness
