'Twas the Night Before Voting
Posted: November 2, 2020
Jim turns to verse to contemplate the act of voting…
Twas the night before voting, when all through the land,
Every voter was fretting and wringing their hands.
Their clothing set out for the very next day
But how would they vote? Not a person could say!
So as they did toss, and they turned in their beds,
Visions of voter fraud danced in their heads.
And Mama with her Xanax, and I with Prozac,
Had just settled down for a bedtime snack.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like The Flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But hosts of angels saying “Please, do not fear.”
“Relax, for behold we bring you direction
“God’s in control despite this election!”
“The Lord steers the course of each earthly event,
“Our God removes kings; provides replacements,(1)
“His plans are pleasing, they are perfect, so good (2)
“His universe runs just the way that it should.”
“So go vote your faith, and don’t be a jerk
“For God will continue to do his good work.”
“Now go back to bed and please get a good rest,
“God’s working all out for the ultimate best.(3)
Then spreading his wings, Michael gave a whistle,
Away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard them exclaim as they flew out of sight,
“Your God is still sov’reign—on election night!”
