Two contrasting photo essay videos introduce Howard Whitaker to SeniorLifestyle : "The Fall and Rise of Fall" and "Elegy for the Iron Horse"…
Editor's Note: I came to know Howard Whitaker when we both served on the faculty of Wheaton College (IL). I did not know of Howard's interest in photography until just recently and he has agreed to share his photo essay videos with us. He recommended these two to begin with. In the future we will add new ones as they are produced, as well as highlight some of the two dozen already in his collection on YouTube (see the link below). Welcome, Howard!—Stu Johnson, editor
These two videos contrast the beauty found in the progression of seasons with the rusting hulks of steam railroad engines—"iron horses"—that still leave strong reminders of a golden age nearly lost in our collective memory. .
The Rise and Fall of Fall
A collection of favorite shots from Fall, 2015, a progression from summer green to late autumn browns and grays, ending with the first snowfall in November. Music by the great Fred Hersch.
Elegy for the Iron Horse
Dignity in cast iron; beauty in details that defy time and rust. (At the Illinois Railroad Museum.) Set to the music of J.S. Bach.
