Lady Macbeth gets credit for this poem…

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

Lady Macbeth gets credit for this poem. I object to her profanity, but these thoughts deserve condemnation. In fact, they are worthy of far worse language than this. “It’s the Mind, stupid!” …the seedbed of every sin. Obedience must begin between the ears. Otherwise the sin will kill me by being born into my reality.

One day in Women’s Chapel our Dean of Women quoted an old adage that was new to me; “You can’t keep the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” I’m not an unintelligent person, but I have been so stupid as to let those birds keep making me top-heavy.

THOUGHTS

Out damned thought! You have no right to be here!”
Your dripping dagger drags me to the pit!
You aid the Tempter---you are his destroyer
To shackle me, but I will not submit!

Out damned thought! The golden gifts you promise
You’ve no intention of delivering.
You lie because your sire is a liar.
I won’t be drinking from your poisoned spring.

Out damned thought! You’re neither true nor noble;
There’s nothing lovely or praiseworthy here.
Deliver me from Peter’s dark dilemma—
Lord save me from the crow of chanticleer!
