With Praise for Aging Spouses

by Greg Asimakoupoulos

An ode to the journey…

A man and wife, their book called Life
seems thick at the first, but then…
Before they know, they’re old and slow.
Life’s volume proves quite thin.

Our spouses age and like a page
at the end of a book we love,
We hold them tight and rue the night
the Scriptures told us of…

when stained and torn, Life’s cover worn
their book barely bound will be closed
But gently held, while memories meld
‘twill be harder than ever supposed.

O precious book, I prize this look
I’ve been granted at least for day.
Though you are old, I deem you as gold
for soon you’ll be shelved away.
