A Blueprint for All Religions
by Dan Seagren
Posted: June 28, 2009
For the sake of doing some human (not divine) speculation, I would like to propose a challenge…
Of the leading religions, only three are monotheistic (an adherence to one deity). These include Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Each deity in alphabetical order generally goes by the name God, Allah, and Jehovah. There are both similarities and dissimilarities in these concepts as well as with their religious writings and other serious comparisons.
For the sake of doing some human (not divine) speculation, I would like to propose a challenge: that those of you who will, create your own blueprint as I have done of ten most important dimensions all religions ought to have in common. This is not an easy assignment but go for it. Warning: it might provoke a senior moment
- Its Deity (Deities) must be given total allegiance by its constituency.
- Its major human concern must be doing unto others as you would have them do unto you including loving your neighbor as yourself
- Orphans, widowed, handicapped and helpless must not be neglected or abused
- Family units must be loving, faithful, protective and self-propagating
- All living creatures and nature must be treated with care, not exploited.
- Its beliefs, customs and styles must not be forced upon others
- Property and wealth must be protected for everyone
- Its sacred writings must be available to its constituency
- Each person must be content and not covet or steal
- Honesty and integrity must prevail.
Now, if you noticed, I used "must" rather than "should". Further, much of what is written is an integral aspect of true Christianity and may or may not be integral to other religions but should be if not.
Again, this is off the cuff stuff, not highly researched or all-inclusive. Go thou and do likewise (if you wish).
